We're very lucky to be located in a Dark Sky Park area, which gives us some great nights for stargazing. However, it is obviously very dark outside too, so please be careful if you're walking in the garden or around the area at night. We've got lots of lights that come on automatically outside, but a torch is recommended.

More Details...
The Rowe House Sofa Bed
(Attic)

Instructions for opening the Trifold sofa beds:
-
Push the sofa bed away from the wall, leaving a space of approximately 100cm.
-
At the back of the sofa bed, lift the vertical back panel up and back, and tilt it so that it is propped at a slight angle.
-
Reach under the middle of the mattress at the front and grab hold of the seat deck. Raise the deck slightly and pull forward a short distance. Leave the front of the seat deck propped up on the front crossrail.
-
At the side of the sofa bed, hold on to the upright panel of the seat deck and slowly lower it down such that the small support legs hold it horizontally.
-
Finally, push the deck into position such that the hinge area at the back is aligned directly over the back crossrail in order to stabilise the bed.
-
Now spread out the mattress. This mattress is the Three-Panel Ultimate futon, you may wish to flip the mattress over at this point.
Instructions for closing the Trifold sofa beds:
-
Fold the bottom third of the mattress back underneath itself, ready to be the seat portion of the mattress again. For the Three-Panel Ultimate Futon, flip the mattress back over first.
-
Push the front of the deck backwards so that its front edge lines up with the front crossrail. Pull the mattress forward.
-
At the side of the sofa bed, place one hand on the back third of the deck and one hand on the middle third, and slowly and steadily raise the back third of the deck upwards so that it becomes vertical.
-
Check that the front third of the deck has locked into place on the two pins in the front crossrail.
-
Check that there is no gap between the bottom of the mattress and the seat deck that forms the backrest of the seat.
-
Move the sofa bed back against the wall.
The Rowe House Day Bed
(Cheviot)
-
To use the day bed for one person, you can just set your bedding up as it is.
-
You can also convert the bed into a bed for two people. Any spare bedding will be in the drawers underneath.
-
Pull out the second bed section by pulling on the lip above the drawers.
-
Put the 2nd mattress onto the bed slats.

Safe Use of Wood Burning Stove
Getting Started
-
Use only dry, seasoned wood (logs are stacked outside).
-
Do not use coal, treated wood, or rubbish – they can damage the stove and flue.
-
Open the air vent fully before lighting. On this stove, sliding the vent to the right = open, and to the left = closed.
Lighting the Stove
-
Place a couple of firelighters or scrunched newspaper on the grate.
-
Add small pieces of kindling on top, then one or two small logs.
-
Light the firelighters/paper.
-
Close the door gently, leaving the air vent open (turned to the right) to help the fire catch.
While Burning
-
Once logs are burning well, adjust the air vent to control the heat:
-
Right = open → hotter, faster burn.
-
Left = closed → cooler, slower burn.
-
-
Add logs gradually – don’t overload the stove.
-
Always keep the stove door closed when in use.
Safety Notes
-
The stove, chimney, and glass door get extremely hot – please take care and keep children and pets away.
-
Use the provided gloves and tools to adjust logs or air vents.
-
Never leave the stove unattended while burning.
-
Don’t dry clothes directly on the stove – use the washing line in the garden or in the sheltered area in the garden.
After Use
-
Let the fire burn down naturally – don’t throw water on it.
-
Ash can be emptied into the metal ash bucket located outside the utility room once the stove is completely cold.
-
Please don’t put hot ashes in the bins.
In Case of Smoke or Problems
-
If the room fills with smoke, open windows and doors to ventilate.
-
Check that the stove vent is open (turned to the right).
-
Once the fire has caught, it should create enough heat for the chimney to draw.
-
If in doubt, let the fire burn out safely and contact Nick for help.
