Sustainability

Being in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales is a privilege, and a constant reminder of the importance of doing as much as we can to look after our environment.

Here are some of the things we're doing to reduce our carbon footprint and operate in a sustainable way. If you need any more information about what we do or have suggestions of ways we can improve, please just get in touch at any time.

Energy and heating

  • The property is heated using air source heat pumps

  • All of our electricity is purchased through a company that only buys renewable energy

  • We have wood-burning stoves which are HETAS approved and only burn seasoned wood

  • All our windows are double-glazed.

  • We will be installing solar panels in the near future.

  • We provide blankets and hot water bottles to reduce the need for heating in the winter

  • All light bulbs are energy efficient

Our local environment

  • Half of our campsite has been turned into a wildflower meadow to attract pollinators

  • We have several water butts so that we can use rainwater for watering

  • There is a walled garden where we grow fruit and veg on site, which you're welcome to enjoy

  • We use local suppliers for products for the house and local tradespeople where possible

  • There is an EV charger to encourage the use of electric vehicles. We've also added advice on our website about public transport, and provided storage for bikes.

  • We've tried to streamline our systems for a paper-free booking system.

  • All the bedrooms have toiletries provided which are refillable bottles to reduce plastic

  • There are recycling bins provided and we ask all guests to separate their waste

  • We are a 'Friend of The Three Peaks' in order to help maintain and protect the paths on the Y3P route
