Walks around The Rowe House
Numerous walks start from our door, there are a selection of maps and guidebooks in The Snug for you to browse and borrow.

Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. (24 miles/39km)
The 3 Yorkshire Peaks, walk up them individually for a more relaxing walk with time to enjoy the scenery. Each take us 3 to 4 hours. There are several routes up each one so do plan wisely before setting off, and do check weather conditions. It can be very windy on the tops and the clouds can come down very fast.

Pen-Y-Ghent (6 miles/10km)
This route gives the classic walk up Pen-y-Ghent via Brackenbottom. Includes a small detour to Hull Pot, a collapsed cave, which is definitely worth it. Another point of interest is Hunt Pot - a smaller pot with a waterfall, just off the main path.

Pennine Way to High Birkwith (7.5 miles/12km)
Return via the new footpath and bridge to Selside cottages or the road through New Houses to The Crown.
Linear walks of the Pennine Way
You can complete one-way sections of The Pennine Way, such as to/from Hawes and Malham back to Horton by using the train and local buses.
Horton Circular (4 miles/6km)
A shorter, low-level walk following The Ribble Way along the river, a short stretch of The Pennine Way, and passing The Crown!

Horton to Wharfe (8.5 miles/14km)
A tiny village on the way to Austwick, return via Helwith Bridge and the Ribble Way or cross the main road and return via Long Lane and Dub Cote.

Horton to Helwith Bridge (8 miles/13km)
Along the Ribble Way, passing through beautiful wild flower meadows. Return via Long Lane, Churn Mill Hole and Brackenbottom.

Shorter Horton Circular (2.5 miles/4km)
Follow Ribble Way to camp site, cross river and follow path back to Golden Lion, return via road or behind church pick up track leading on to Pennine Way.
Stainforth and Catrigg Force (2.5 miles/4km)
A short, family friendly walk in the Yorkshire Dales from the lovely village of Stainforth to a fairytale-like secluded gorge

Stainforth Force and the Hoffman Kiln (4.5 miles/7km)
A short, low-level walk with an interesting old kiln to explore, before following the riverbank up to Stainforth Force, where salmon leap up the waterfall in autumn!​

Austwick to Crummack Dale and the Norber Erratics (8 miles/13km)
A geologists dream - boulders perched on limestone pedestals provide an other-worldly landscape. This could be made into a longer walk from Horton.

Clapham to Gaping Gill (9.5 miles/15km)
Passing Ingleborough Cave, Gaping Gill and Trow Gill. Can also be reached from Horton. Route can be extended to summit Ingleborough.
Ingleton Waterfall Trail (4.5 miles/7km)
A clear path around a SSSI with oak woodlands and waterfalls, as well as cafe, toilets, and picnic areas. Free parking, but there is an entrance fee.

Malham Cove Gordale Scar and Janets Foss (4.5 miles/7km)
A very popular walk, for good reason, taking in dramatic landscapes, waterfalls, and even Harry Potter filming locations!
Keld to Muker Circular (6 miles/10km)
A spectacular walk a bit further away in Swaledale - but well worth the drive.
